Globethics.net is delighted to announce Dr Dicky Sofjan, professor at the Indonesian Consortium for Religious Studies (ICRS), Globethics.net Board Member and Pool of Experts member, as the new Globethics.net Indonesia Director.
On the occasion of the first bi-annual board meeting of 2022, Dr Dicky visited Globethics.net Head Offices in Geneva, Switzerland and signed the agreement to become the national director of the Globethics.net office in Indonesia. As Dr Dicky highlighted at the ceremony, this agreement is the result of years of collaboration between Globethics.net, ICRS, and himself.
Dr Sofjan studied political science and international relations with a focus on Muslim societies in Southeast Asia and the Middle East, notably Iran. In 2016 Dr Sofjan was inducted as a "Pacific Fellow" on Asian Dialogues by the Carnegie Council on Ethics and International Affairs.
In addition to being a core doctoral faculty member of the IRCS, Dr Dicky is part of the Globethics.net Indonesia Regional Programme team, author of several Globethics.net publications, and co-author of one of our most recent online courses Interreligious Cooperation for Peace.
Home to the greatest number of Globethics.net participants of any country in the world, Indonesia has been a key country since the foundation of the organisation. Therefore, this new appointment goes hand in hand with the opening of a new position in the region as Globethics.net Indonesia National Officer.
Since opening in 2010, the Globethics.net Indonesia office has been hosted at the Indonesian Consortium for Religious Studies (ICRS) in Yogyakarta. This is a strategic partnership, as the ICRS-Yogya is a consortium of three universities: Gadjah Mada University (UGM), State Islamic University Sunan Kalijaga (UIN), and Duta Wacana Christian University (UKDW). Together they offer an integrative and international PhD program in inter-religious studies, a unique worldwide Religious Studies PhD Program that is co-sponsored by Muslim, Christian, and national-secular universities.
