Environment, Ethics and Education: Readings and Reflections for a Future Society
About this event
‘Education for a sustainable world' has become the watchword amidst the massive challenges being faced by millions of people across the globe. Increasing complexities have compelled world leaders, industrialists and policymakers to move away from an anthropocentric to an ecocentric approach in all areas related to human and non-human activities.
Instead of telling pupils to preserve the environment, they should be encouraged to learn the rationale and the interconnectedness of humans and nature. Moreover, the young need to be reinforced on their own environmental rights, such as the right to inherit a healthy and sustainable environment; the right to food, water, shelter and education, and to be informed of the sober fact that climate change is going to affect the exercising and enjoyment of these rights. The role of ethics and its relevance in the public and professional domains attract more attention in this context.
This seminar, organised collaboratively between St. Jude's College, Thoothur, Globethics India and Journal of Dharma, and held onsite at St. Jude's, looks into the triangular relation among these three keywords - ethics, environment and education - and how each of them significantly affect the other realms of the human world.
