African Church Assets Programme (ACAP IV), Kenya National Workshop

On the 21 and 22 October 2021, Globethics.net, in partnership with the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) and helped by CORAT Africa, organised an African Church Assets Programme (ACAP IV) National Workshop at the AACC, Desmond Tutu Guest House in Nairobi. 

African Church Assets Programme is a training programme Globethics.net in collaboration with AACC, and with the support of Bread for the World, Berlin, Germany, has been implementing since 2016 on Asset Management. This programme has been implemented in four different phases to date. The first phase focused on the mapping of assets by Churches and Church Related Organisations(CROs). Phase two's focus was on development and capacity building with the goal of qualifying Churches and Church-Related organisations for responsible asset management. The third phase aimed to strengthen CROs' capacity to manage their assets sustainably and adopt ethical investment principles. The current phase (known as ACAP IV) is designed to empower the church-based organisations on asset management through ethical investment. The Churches, Church-Related Organisations and stakeholders are called upon to contribute to developing local policy/regulations in ethical investment with local standard-setting. 

To achieve this, CORAT Africa was mandated at the beginning of 2021 to conduct an in-country study in Kenya to cover the following areas:

• National investment legislation and guidelines
• Reflection on ethical and human rights principles
• Social and civil society engagement in the country on ethical investment
• The role and potential of the churches and church networks in the country in ethical investment

The findings of this study were shared in a virtual conference in June 2021, and now the draft national guidelines have been developed. 

The draft guidelines will be disseminated, discussed, critiqued, and improved by the participants during the upcoming workshop.
