null Tribute to Globethics Expert Ryan Urbano

Ryan UrbanoGlobethics is saddened to hear of the sudden death of Ryan Urbano on 25 January 2023. He was a member of the Globethics Pool of Ethics Experts, of the editorial board of the Globethics Journal of Ethics in Higher Education, and professor of ethics.

Among Ryan’s academic posts and affiliations, he served as the University Director for Research and Development and as Associate Professor at Cebu Technological University; Chair of the Department of Philosophy at the University San Carlos in the Philippines; member of the University of San Carlos Institutional Ethics Review Committee; member of the Central Visayas Consortium for Health Research and Development (CVCHRD) Committee on Ethics and Review; member of the Philosophical Association of the Philippines; and as a member of the editorial boards and an advisor for a number of journals.

Ryan studied for both his PhD and MA in philosophy at the University of San Carlos, Cebu City, in 2010 and 1998 respectively and completed a joint master's degree in applied ethics at Linkoping University, Sweden and Utrecht University, the Netherlands, in 2008. His research interests included ethics in theory and practice, political philosophy, and philosophy of religion. In his research and as a KAICIID fellow for South and South East Asia he contributed significantly to interfaith dialogue.

Among his most recent publications figures a contribution to the Globethics multi-authored volume Walking with the Earth. Intercultural Perspectives on Ethics of Ecological Caring (2022).

The Globethics international community joins his family, friends, colleagues and students in mourning the loss of Ryan, a gifted and dedicated scholar.

He will be laid to rest on Wednesday, 1 February 2023 near his hometown in Lapu-lapu City, Cebu.
