On 24 and 25 November 2022, Future Education Award winner Chuka University held the 9th Annual International Research Conference on the theme, “Exploring new frontiers in education, research and innovations for economic recovery” at the university’s main campus in Chuka, Kenya.
The theme of the conference was informed by the fact that the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the current political and economic turbulences have adversely affected world economies, resulting in commodity scarcity, unsustainably increasing cost of living and reduced quality of life. As a result of this, the current situation is not only having a big toll on the achievement of the sustainable development goals but also may revert the already gained milestones in the Big Four Agenda in Kenya. Consequently, there is a need to develop novel innovations and improve on the existing knowledge to mitigate the contemporary challenges in the effort to preserve and advance the achieved development goals.
The objectives of the conference included: sharing new frontiers in education, research and innovations for invigorating economic recovery, revitalising policy through interrogation of contemporary and alternative knowledge to meet present realities, sharing research milestones to facilitate sustainable livelihoods and forging partnerships for collaborations in education, research, innovations and entrepreneurship.
A total of 159 papers were lined up for presentation in three different breakaway rooms running concurrently for the two days. The three breakaway groups focused on the following themes, Frontiers in Hospitality and Business Education, Research and Innovation for Economic Recovery; Frontiers in Agriculture and Environment Education, Research and Innovation for Economic Recovery and Frontiers in Education and Training, Research and Innovation for Economic Recovery. Over three hundred participants took part in the conference representing different institutions within and outside of the country.
