South Asia Centre (Bangalore)

The Globethics South Asia Centre team promotes ethical leadership through higher education and public engagement via conferences, publications and journals, anti-corruption campaigns, research on business ethics and other topics, special library collections, courses and awareness-raising campaigns for high school students, and training and consulting for higher education institutions, teachers and professionals across the South Asia region.

Globethics India was established on 10 September 2010 together with Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram (DVK) in Bangalore. The team of Directors is composed of Dr Vasanthi Srinivasan from the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB), Rev. Jacob Belly (ACPD), and Fr Jose Nandhikkara (DVK), assisted by the Regional Manager for South Asia, Ms Rajula V.

An additional team was formed in New Delhi in 2018 together with Dr Pavan Duggal, member of the Globethics Board of Foundation.

null Law and Ethics: International Virtual Conference held by Globethics.net India


The virtual conference gathered speakers and participants from all over the world

Ad Meliora-3, a two-day Virtual International Conference on Law and Ethics was held on 26 and 27 August 2022, organised collaboratively by Globethics.net India and Christ Academy Institute of Law, Bengaluru, India. The conference was a great success, gathering over 488 global participants to listen to and interact with the 20 speakers sharing their expert insights.

The conference aimed to bring students, academicians, and intellectuals from the legal and non-legal fields together on a digital platform to deliberate on the intersections between law and ethics. It was the endeavour of Ad Meliora-3 to probe into the contemporary relevance of ethical and moral stands in the regulation of various fields of human action which will have a deeper impact on human existence.

The international virtual conference was conducted in four sessions. The first day of the conference began with the inaugural session on 26 August: Dr Sini John, the Academic Coordinator at Christ Academy Institute of Law, welcomed the gathering followed by the Presidential Address from the Manager of Christ Academy Group of Institutions, Fr Dr Babu Paul CMI.

Honourable Justice Kurian Joseph, Former Judge of the Supreme Court of India graced the occasion with the inaugural address, speaking about the application of theology and ethics in law. He drew attention to the motto of the highest court in India- ‘Yato dharmasthato jaya’ – which highlights the role of law and dharma in ensuring a just and peaceful society.

Emphasising the connections between human beings, Dr Christoph Stückelberger, President and Founder of Globethics.net, delivered the keynote address, in which he spoke about the tricky relationship between law and ethics. The optimistic air surrounding the progress of the conference was further fuelled by the felicitation from Christine Housel, Donor Relations and Strategic Partnership at Globethics.net. The Principal of Christ Academy Institute of Law, Fr Dr Davis Panadan CMI, also gave a short overview of the institution, CAIL, and the relevance of the conference theme.

During the second session of the international conference, papers were presented on varied themes by research scholars, academicians, and industry experts from various academic disciplines. The papers were presented under the sub-themes of law, ethics and health; law, ethics and environment, and law, ethics and business. Mr K.M Gopakumar, Senior Researcher and Legal Advisor at Third World Network, New Delhi, Dr Shiju MV, Professor, Sai University, Chennai and Dr Preetha S, Assistant Professor, School of Legal Studies, CUSAT acted as the resource persons for these sessions and provided their valuable insights. A total of thirty-four research papers were presented on the first day of the conference.

The second day of the conference included an exciting and enriching panel discussion moderated by Prof Dr Jose P. Varghese, Advocate and Former Vice-Chairman (Judicial), Central Administrative Tribunal (Principal Bench) with renowned industry experts: Dr Pavan Duggal, Chairman, International Commission on Cyber Security Law; Christine Housel; Fr Dr Jose Nandikkara CMI, National Director, Golbethics.net India, and Indrani Bhattacharya, Former Project Manager, Standard Chartered Bank & Deputy GM, Exide Life Insurance.
