12-week open online course to address ethics in the context of cyberspace, evolving technologies, and their impacts.

What you will learn

The 12-week open online course on Cyber Ethics equips participants with the awareness, knowledge and critical thinking necessary to recognise and apply ethics to their decisions in cyberspace, in the context of security, technologies and artificial intelligence (AI), freedom and responsible citizenship, economics and the future of work, bullying and protection of the vulnerable, governance and democratic participation.

The course is based on the publication: 'Cyber Ethics 4.0: Serving Humanity with Values' written by Christoph Stückelberger and Pavan Duggal.

Course objectives

Upon completion of the Cyber Ethics course, you will be able to:
  • Recognise the main ethical aspects of cyber environments;
  • Apply ethics and core values to all decisions that are made within cyberspace;
  • Analyse cyberspace management approaches and models from ethical perspectives;
  • Create new principles of behaviour in cyberspace that meet global ethical principles and rules.

Final Assignment

This open online course is designed to equip academia, professionals, organisations, and leaders with the awareness, knowledge, and thinking necessary to recognise, include and apply ethics to their decisions in the cyber space, in the context of artificial intelligence, Big Data, Blockchain and Fintech, social media, and other concepts. It is held 100% online to facilitate flexible, accessible learning no matter where participants are located, and is run over 12 weeks, focusing on one unit each week.

Schedule

The Cyber Ethics course will begin in the week commencing 18 September 2023.

The schedule for the weekly one-hour live sessions will be arranged with the input of the instructors and participants. All live sessions will be recorded and made available to registered participants on the course platform.

Workload

This 12-week course has an estimated total workload of 98 hours (including 12 one-hour synchronous learning sessions every week and estimated self-guided study time, excluding additional time for facultative networking).

Assessment and certification

Participants electing for the Certificate Track course will take a Final Assignment at the end of the course, and will receive an ECTS-accredited Certificate on completion of all course requirements to verify their achievement and increase job prospects.

Classes conducted in English require upper intermediate proficiency in English to follow the live sessions and to read the course material.

The Basic Track option, without final assignment and certificate of attendance, is free of charge.

The Certificate Track option is based on the World Bank Development Indicators. The price of the courses is adjusted depending on where in the world the course participant lives. Learners from lower-income regions will pay less than learners from higher-income regions.

Computing requirements

You will need broadband internet access and a desktop or laptop computer with an up-to-date version of Windows (10 or 11), or macOS (10.15 or higher).

It is also possible to access our learning management system on a mobile phone, tablet device, however, as you will have to download the moodle application for Android or MacOs.

For the assignments and final assignment, you will be required to use any word processor, such as Microsoft Word, Google Sheets, Pages, and convert it to a PDF, you can download it here.
